I live in London with my family. I have lived in London for my whole life and still live very close to my old school and school friends. I love watching supernatural TV shows as well as science documentaries (a very weird combination!). My pronouns are she/her.

I currently research the ways in which diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease begin and how we can develop a cure. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting around 6 in every 10 people with dementia. In Alzheimer’s disease, changes occur in the brain that go beyond those associated with normal ageing. These changes include the build-up of two proteins, called amyloid and tau. I also study prion diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and “mad cow disease”.

My Typical Day:
Read to science articles, plan some experiments, set-up the experiments (and hope they work), go through the results and try and make sense of it (!) and then try and see how this matches with work done by other labs.

During the weekdays, I usually wake up at 6:30am and am usually out of the house by around 7:30am. I catch the tube into work every morning. I usually listen to a podcast in the morning or catch-up on TV shows that I have missed. I tend to get into work at around 8:30am and spend then next half hour planning my day. There are usually multiple experiments going on everyday so planning what I do everyday is very important or I end up running around more than I’d like.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I’d like to set up an Outreach activity and invite students around London to visit the lab I work in and also the university! Or donate it to a school so they can buy more lab equipment
