My CV
-
Education:
I went to school in a small West Coast town Greymouth New Zealand, then polytechnic to become a qualififed chef then university BSc, MSc and PhD at the Univeristy of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. I began doing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in sociology but found neuroscience and psychology too interesting so I transferred my major.
-
Qualifications:
I did not finish high school and instead trained to become a chef and baker. Throughout university my grades were not spectactular and I failed some papers. But I gained post graduate qualifications in Neuroscience.
Soft qualities like people skills, team cooperation and ingenuity have probably been what have actually got me to where I am today, but qualifications are required as well. -
Work History:
I worked as a baker and chef and enjoyed having free time while others were working. However the conditions (pay and work hours-at night when friends were being social) made me want more in life coupled with my gf breaking up with me (just the push I needed) sent me to university.
I have worked on models of many neurological conditions, from Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease to epilepsy in New Zealand, Germany and now Oxford in the UK. -
Current Job:
I currently work at the University of Oxford as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Brain Networks Dynamics Unit in the Medical Research Council.
-
About Me:
I am a Kiwi living with my family working in Oxford. I’m old enough to have kids but not old enough to stop acting like a kid.

My Typical Day:
Get up, take our elderly dog for a walk and organise the kids ready for school. At work I would use a microscope to take images of our work, discuss these with colleagues, think about upcoming projects and deadlines. I would have lunch and walk around University parks before finishing off some tasks and then go pick my children up from school.
