My CV
-
Education:
I went to school in Haltwhistle in Northumberland, then in Leicester. Then I went to College in Loughborough then University in Wrexham, Edinburgh, London and finally Cambridge.
-
Qualifications:
I didn’t do very well at my GCSEs. I got 3 C’s: 1 in maths and 2 in science, and started A-levels but didn’t enjoy it so I did a national diploma. Then I did almost every single qualification after that and now have a national diploma, a higher national diploma, a bachelors degree, a post graduate certificate, a masters degree and finally a PhD from Cambridge University.
-
Work History:
At school I worked part time at McDonalds, then at a pizza shop, as a bike mechanic for one summer in Cirencester, a English language teacher in South Korea, a market researcher in Australia, a nutrition assistant in a hospital. I did data entry, managed a data base, stopped to do a PhD, then became a scientist.
-
Current Job:
I am a Research Associate in the Population Health Initiatives group.
-
About Me:
I’m interested in ways we can improve everyone’s health, in particular looking at sugary drinks. I’m a researcher at Cambridge.

I work in Cambridge and live with my wife and daughter. We have no pets but would like to have a dog. I like to run and play football as well as reading and exploring. Everyday my daughter and I go on an adventure to see what we can find and have seen lots of cool things like animals, birds, rocks and trees.

In my work I look at whether the tax on soft drinks (officially called the UK Soft Drinks Industry Levy) has changed the amount of sugary drinks people buy. The tax has meant that drinks with lots of sugar in them are more expensive and so I want to know whether people buy fewer drinks because of the extra cost. Also because the drinks makers have to pay the tax whether they choose to make fewer sugary drinks.

My Typical Day:
I get up about 7am then get help my daughter get ready for school – on Tuesdays she had a packed lunch. She cycles to school while I run. Then I get to work at about 9am. I fire up my computer and make my breakfast (porridge with raisins and bananas) then eat that while I start looking at my data. I have to count the amount of each type of drink that each household buys then
