I was born in India, moved with my family to the Middle East and then to Australia where I did the final years of my schooling, University and PhD. I then moved to the UK and have been working as a scientist ever since. I love asking questions and growing up my parents got sick of me asking lots of questions all the time. I love watching and playing sports, especially basketball, football and some racquet sports. I love reading fiction and this allows me to de-stress after a long day.
When I was 14 a friend and I made a pact. I wanted to identify the function of all genes and my friend wanted to go to the Moon. He is now an aeronautical engineer and I am studying molecular biology. We often reminisce about those chats after our basketball games in school.

Lung cancer is a deadly disease and most patients come to the clinic when it is sadly too late. My lab is finding ways to detect and stop lung cancer earlier. We use lots of techniques to do this, and my day is never static. This makes my work very enjoyable and exciting.
I work with a way of growing cells called organoids. Cells in our bodies grow in a 3D environment and most labs grow cells in flasks or 2D. This is not ideal and organoids are the perfect way to study the real nature of these cells.

My Typical Day:
I try and get up early and then catch the train from Cambridge to London. During the train journey, I try and work on emails or make a plan for what I want to do in the lab. When I get in, I normally go into the lab and check on my organoids. They are my babies and I make sure they are growing well and have enough food to eat. Then I work on analyzing some data or performing other experiments.
