I live in Oxford with my boyfriend and our German Shepherd puppy, Ghost. I am a 2nd year PhD student and I love doing experiments in the lab. Japanese food is my favourite and I’m planning to go on holiday there soon to try out all their different foods and visit lots of cool places. I love sports, especially swimming and I swim in competitions all over the country as part of my university team. My dad is from Poland and I love visiting my family in the summer holidays, we often go for long walks or bike rides round the forests.

I am interested in learning about how fat is stored differently in the body to give people an apple or a pear shape. I look at how proteins might change and talk with each other in fat cells to make them to grow differently. We can then use this information to understand why people have different body shapes.
-
My Typical Day:
I wake up very early to go swimming before I start work. In the lab I warm up my equipment and then spend the day doing different experiments to measure how my cells are growing.

I usually wake up at 5.00am and go to swimming training before work – I like to do this to give me energy for the rest of the day. Once I get to work, usually around 8.30am I will warm up my science equipment and plan my experiments for the day. Around 10.00am I go for a coffee with other people in my lab so that we can talk about different ideas and give each other advice. The rest of my day is spent doing experiments and looking after my cells to make sure they are growing well. Now that we are in lockdown, I try and spend my time reading papers about other people’s experiments so that I can plan new experiments to make sure I am doing the best work that I can do.
