Hi and thanks for your question! Yes, computational work is more and more common in biological and medical research! For example, we use computer programs to analyse the images we get from the microscope and perform statistical analysis on the data. We can also make computer models to “simulate” our biological problem/question and help us understand it 🙂
Hi! I just wanted to add, programming is a really useful skill to have. I had never done any until I started my postgraduate studies and found it a real struggle to begin with. It took a lot of work but I got there in the end and now feel fairly confident using programming to analyse my data. If you don’t learn it at school, I would definitely recommend learning it if you have time. Lots of jobs require programming skills these days and it is a really good transferable skill, useful in lots of professions.
Currently trying to learn the statistics program R to analyse a large data set…. I think coding is a skill that there will be more and more demand for in the future
Yes, I program everyday, I use it like Spanish or English, but this language is for my computer only. It is my way of telling it to run calculations or analyses. I didn’t particularly enjoyed it when I started learning it, but now I am very happy I did, as it is so useful and needed for so many different applications!

P.S. A good programming language to learn is Python. It is widely used and there are lots of free tutorials online.
