Hi there, thanks for your question! I find the most interesting thing about being a scientist is always being on the edge of new discoveries. In general, a scientist will work on a very specific topic that not many other scientists work on. This means that scientists are constantly finding out things that nobody has found out before!
For me, the most interesting part about being a scientist is getting to work with scientists from different backgrounds, both in terms of what they studied at university and their nationalities. I am an epidemiologist, and my colleagues studied biology, mathematics, engineering, economics, medicine, physics, and more! They come from all over the world (every continent except Antarctica). Having diversity in research is important because it allows scientists to see problems in a different way and come up with new ideas.
Great question! The most interesting thing about being a scientist for me is that every day is different and what you’re doing could potentially make a difference, even it’s a small difference. Lots of things make being a scientist interesting, I also agree with Kelly that science is so diverse and it’s worldwide so you get the opportunity to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
There are many interesting things about being a scientist, but like Zoe said, one of the best things is finding out things that no one else in the world knows! Then you get to travel the world telling everyone about it.
I find going in each day never knowing what is going to happen and what you are going to find out very exciting! Every day is different and so varied, plus if you are really interested in what you research it’s fascinating. You get to travel the world presenting and learning from others and it’s great to meet like minded scientists from across the globe.
I love finding out new things… things that no one knows yet – also I love talking about science with school pupils and other people when I take part in science festivals and school visits.
